The Cost of Hay

Haybale4

Although it looks like we’re not going to see a shortage of hay due to drought this year, the cost of fertilizer and farm fuel continues to drive prices for hay higher, especially bermuda square bales.  Prices are ranging from $3.00 (picking ‘em up out of the pasture) to as much as $7.00 (delivered).

There was a good window of opportunity to bale in June and early July, but the last ten days have seen heavy rain and it looks like we’re in for some more for at least another week.  Good for growin’ – not so good for balin’.

This is where we’ll post items of interest about horses and life on the farm.  Comments are welcome.
